Ready, Set, Build! is CMiC’s social purpose umbrella which houses our community involvement and fundraisers. The initiative is completely employee-driven and works towards our vision that all Canadians (citizens and residents) have the opportunity the find meaningful work in order to support themselves and their families.

Developed in 2018, Ready, Set, Build! allows CMiC and its employees to engage with our community partners and help those who face barriers to employment or education find work in the construction industry.
Ready, Set, Build! uses community involvement and fundraising initiatives to create employee engagement and drive donations. CMiC provides its employees with two paid volunteer days each year to volunteer with our community partners. We participate in community build days and softball tournaments, organize an annual holiday toy drive, and run additional raffles and events throughout the year.
In our first 4 years, we have provided more than $100,000 in support to our community partners.

Our Community Partners
Building Up is a social enterprise supporting individuals with barriers to employment. In providing holistic training and supports, they are creating access to upward wealth mobility and long-term careers in the construction industry.
Operating as a self-sustaining contractor, this social enterprise takes on work specifically to provide real-life, on-site, paid training to its participants, supporting the transition to real-world construction careers.
Since partnering with CMiC in 2019, Building Up has been successful in scaling their program, opening a brand-new training center, and extending their support to trainees via their Alumni Program.
CMiC directly supports the RESIDE program, Raising the Roof’s long-term solution to homelessness. RESIDE renovates vacant and under-utilized spaces into energy-efficient, affordable housing. The program specifically hires social enterprise contractors like Building Up to complete the renovations, meaning our donations to this program go twice as far in helping our communities.
By creating employment opportunities and new units of deeply affordable housing with wraparound social supports, RESIDE is providing a tangible, targeted, long-term solution to ending homelessness in Canada.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals are an urgent call for action by all countries (developed and developing) in a global partnership. The goals recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.1
While the nature of CMiC’s business lends itself easily to goals 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Ready, Set, Build! further focuses our efforts on goals 1, 4, 5, 8, 10:
